Day +49: Testing....Testing....

Today was a much more relaxed day for Keith and Josie. Following his radiation session, Keith again headed up to school. When asked, he admitted that he still had a little more work to do to finish the Star test he has been chipping away at since Monday. But the teacher, perhaps seeing a little disappointment in his honest eyes, cut him some slack today and instead let him join the rest of the group led by a couple of actors / volunteers who were engaging the kids with all sorts of fun activities. A compassionate gesture indeed although it’s a pretty safe bet that he will get another chance to finish up the test later this week.

Well, Keith is closing in on 50 days post transplant and his progress is tracking as the doctors had predicted and as we more or less had expected. I am not going to tempt fate and predict when Keith might be able to leave RM House and return home to Orinda. We had been given a very rough timetable a while back suggesting that the earliest we could expect to return home would be +60 days post transplant – if there are no complications. It has been nearly 2 months since he last slept in his own bed or cozied up with Kirby on the sofa.

We’re getting closer though….

Keith: I expect that I will be in touch with your grandfather Don sometime during the next 10 days. I will tell him that he needs to work on these "knock knock" jokes. Talk about groaners. I cannot believe that I am e-mailing you from a Hampton Inn in Ashtabula, Ohio. I cannot believe that there is such a place as Ashtabula. Ah well...by Saturday, I will be enjoying whitefish pate. Hugs to you. Barbara Hunting
