Day +90: Mr. Obsessive Compulsive

Keith has always had a proclivity for obsessive streaks (particularly when it comes to entertainment choices) despite our best efforts to mitigate them. For anyone who really knows Keith this comes as no big surprise. This would include everything from Lego’s (way back when) through nearly every imaginable gaming platform and kids TV. His current obsession centers on TV's Cartoon Network, displacing his former compulsive fascination with the Food Network. Despite Josie’s efforts to re-direct Keith’s attention toward other perhaps more enlightening forms of entertainment, this seems to be what captures Keith’s interest right now. I suppose it is a useful form of escape for him, but there sure is a lot of ‘tude in current cartoon programming (with the exception of Spongebob, which is without question the greatest cartoon ever conceived) and it doesn't make for very relaxing background for the grown-ups in the house.

Hmmm. Maybe if the Food Network produced a program featuring an animated Alton Brown we could get Keith to switch his allegiance back to programming the rest of us could actually tolerate…

Keith continues to feel fine and his lab reports have all been solid lately with his ANC and platelet counts all steadily climbing. In preparation for the upcoming study it was determined that his red blood cell count was borderline, so today Josie took him to Children’s Hospital to have a unit of blood transfused. Everything went according to plan and they were in and out quite efficiently as these things go, leaving the remainder of the day free for other activities……

…..like, ah yes, Cartoon Network…..

OK - you hit home with me. CN drives me nuts! I banned it (I still have that control with an 8, 6 and 4 year old) but the other day while my eyes were lightly closed - the boys slyly tuned into CN (did I just say I still have control?) and I heard "your invention sucks!" come from the TV. Huh? Worse yet - those words came from Spiderman! Since when did our Superheroes start talking like that? At the same time - how can I ban Scooby Dooby Doo (an Owen favorite)?

Happy viewing Keith!

Thank goodness our kids are grown and gone. CN would drive me crazy and would most certainly be banned. And then there is MTV...aargh!!! However, I do agree with your Aunt Nancy that Scooby is an icon...and worth watching. I do hope that you still like the Food Network. Until reading about your obsession with it, I'd never watched it...and now, I really enjoy it. Barbara Hunting

I'd like to see "Iron Chef" go animated. Somehow, the chairman would seem more real in two dimensions. And can't you just see Bobby Flay, decked out in aqua Lycra, going up against a cartoon-big Morimoto? Just imagine how fast the knives could fly. There goes Bobby clutching at his own ankle as he goes down injured yet again. Limping, he rises, vowing that someday nouveau Southwestern cuisine will rule the world. But a soft kick from Morimoto sends Bobby's corn and blueberry crepes into starspace. Cut to a badly drawn anime figure praising Morimoto's dishes' "harmony." Oh, count me in.

I guess I am totally out of it. I have watched neither CN or Food Network, however, I hope the cartoons don't make you lose your taste for hot fudge. I have enjoyed years of trying to find the definitive receipe and loved every bite except those that were really chocolate sauce pawned off as hot fudge. If you have found THE receipe, please share. Thanks, Keith, and enjoy the channel of your choice. The Big L

Hello Keith!

I have to admit that I went through my own Cartoon Network phase a few years back when I got hooked on the Powerpuff Girls for a while. Something about the quirkiness of that show appealed to me. I don't expect they are your cup of tea, of course - but that's really been my only flirtation with CN to date. Now, we don't have cable (oh, the horror!). So we aren't seeing the Powerpuff Girls or Alton Brown much these days. So that means when I am traveling (in Chicago right now as a matter of fact) - I usually spend a little quality time getting a cable t.v. "fix".
I hope today was a good day for you! Love from, Allison
